Parent and baby
We recognise the special bond between parent and child, particularly during the early years of a child’s life. One of the best ways to nurture this bond is through reading together. A soothing voice and gentle touch from mum or dad is all that is needed for baby to feel relaxed, safe and content. We carry a range of beautiful books that will peak baby’s curiosity and stimulate his or her development. From bath-time to bed-time, begin your baby’s life long love of reading.
First readers
From A-B-C to 1-2-3, learning to read should be a fun adventure for children. Ginger and Pickles caters to all learning styles and needs for nursery and school age children. We recognise the importance of using different techniques to spark your child’s interest in reading and to facilitate their learning. Visit our picture book corner of the shop - story-time is a great way to enhance your youngster’s enthusiasm for the written word.
Young readers
Whatever reading level, Ginger and Pickles aims to inspire every young person to pick up a book and get lost in its pages. First chapter books and exciting serials are a great way to entice even the most reluctant reader as well as broaden the horizons for the more adventurous.
Young Adults
In recent years the explosion of YA books has meant that teens have a wealth of choice when it comes to reading for enjoyment. Reading not only enhances language and literacy skills but allows young people to become more engaged with the world around them. Actively reading at this age will also be highly beneficial for moving on to the next chapter in a young adult’s life. From contemporary to history, from fantasy to sci-fi, Ginger and Pickles has a dedicated area for teens. We also carry and can order course texts, study guides and writing aids to meet all educational needs. Please see more on this in our Schools section.
Schools
If you are a school, education provider or teacher we are well placed to help with all your educational needs. Having been a secondary school English teacher for over 12 years, the owner of Ginger and Pickles will certainly be able to assist you with choosing the right books, recommending study guides and stocking and ordering the relevant curriculum prescribed texts. Please get in touch with the bookshop to find out more.
